Most of the athletic teams hold tryouts prior to the start of the season (games). The try out period will vary from sport to sport. Information regarding tryouts is made available in the daily bulletin and sometimes by signs posted around school.Generally, freshmen boys and girls participate on freshmen teams when they are available. Sophomores compete on junior varsity teams when they are offered. Juniors and seniors make up varsity teams. When only one level of competition is offered, all grade levels may try out and be a part of the team. When only two levels are offered (junior varsity and varsity), freshmen and sophomores make up the junior varsity team and juniors and seniors make up the varsity squad. Sometimes, coaches will move athletes up to higher levels. This is usually done after the coaches of the higher level have discussed the move with the administration, the lower level coach, and the parents of the athlete.
